This segment covers the period from 11 June 2022 to 16 September 2022 (before and including majority of the long eclipses season 2022).

Baseline telemetry: 140% in June, 125% in September, and 125-140% in July and August, depending on availability of science targets.

For the eclipse season the payload will be off, the dates are:

  • C34 09/09/2022 09:00 - 18/09/2022 12:00
  • C12 11/09/2022 18:00 - 22/09/2022 06:00

There are moon eclipses during this period, on 27/06/2022, on C4 at 27/06/2022 18:01 - 19:26 and on C3 at 27/06/2022 18:25 - 19:44.

There will be manoeuvres on 26/06/2022 on C1234, on 08/07/2022 on C3, on 01/08/2022 on C3, on 11/08/2022 on C3, on 20/08/2022 on C3, the full list of manoeuvres for this period is included here http://jsocwiki.rl.ac.uk/attachment/wiki/WikiStart/manoeuvres_feb2022_aug2022.pdf.

Payload on SC34 will be off for a combined time of the manoeuvres on 26/06/2022 and the moon eclipse on 27/07/2022, the payload time off is:

  • C4: 26/06/2022 17:47 - 28/06/2022 11:00
  • C3: 26/06/2022 18:12 - 28/06/2022 11:00

Cluster crosses the predicted magnetopause until: C34 - 21/06/2022, C1 - 25/06/2022, C2 - 27/06/2022. Cluster crosses the predicted neutral sheet from: C34 - 18/07/2022, C12 - 20/07/2022.

The main science targets are skimming magnetopause, plasma sheet and conjunctions between Cluster with MMS and/or THEMIS at the magnetopause and in the plasma sheet. There are no single SC BM1 and BM2 periods in the MSP 47.1.

The science planning for some BM2 modes has been changed on 25/04/2022, affected orbits are: 3475, 3478, 3479, 3482, 3486, 3490. Table in the file MSP47p1-4SC_BM2_draft_v2.pdf reflects the changes. The science planning for the end of MSP 47.1 (from orbit 3511) was changed on 26/06/2022 to reflect the ESOC's schedule for the instruments to be switched off for the eclipse season.
