wiki:MSP462

This segment covers the period from 19 March - 11 June 2022 and has 140% data volume as a baseline.

For the eclipse season the payload will be off, the dates are:

  • C1: 26/02/2022 06:00 - 29/03/2022 10:00
  • C2: 24/02/2022 00:00 - 31/03/2022 10:00
  • C34: 26/02/2022 06:00 - 22/03/2022 16:00

There are moon eclipses during this period, on C4 on 29/05/2022 04:54 - 05:22 and on C2 on 30/05/2022 16:55 - 17:19. For this moon eclipse, on SC2 all payload will be switched OFF for the period 30/05/2022 00:00 - 31/05/2022 06:00. On SC4 all payload will stay ON as ESOC has confirmed that 'for the SC44 minimum short eclipse due to the illumination profile of that eclipse, the SAP available is enough for ESOC to keep the payloads on but ESOC will have to switch off transponder during eclipse.'

There will be manoeuvres on 28/03/2022 on C3, 06/04/2022 on C3, and on 15/04/2022 on C3, the full list of manoeuvres for this period is included here http://jsocwiki.rl.ac.uk/attachment/wiki/WikiStart/manoeuvres_mar2021_apr2022.pdf.

Cluster crosses the predicted bow shock until: C34 - 11/05/2022, C1 - 18/05/2021, C2 - 22/05/2021.

The main science targets are the high speed plasma jets, magnetopause, bow shock, magnetosheath, and conjunctions between Cluster with MMS and/or THEMIS. The BM1 data for the PEACE/WHISPER cross-calibration in the magnetosheath also will be collected.

Science planning for MSP46.2, orbits 3466 and 3467, was changed on 18/03/2022 to accommodate payload constraints during the May 2022 Moon eclipse. The change is reflected in the updated files for the 'by orbit' analysis of MSP46.2, BM1 periods (BM1 mode in orbit 3467 was slightly shifted in time and will run on SC134 only) and BM2 periods (BM2 mode in orbit 3467 will run on SC134 only).
